Smoking Prevention on Campus from Campus Security Center

1. The amendments to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act came into effect on February 15, 2023:

a. All institutions of higher education are smoke-free zones.

b. Persons under the age of 20 should not smoke.

c. Any and all tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, are completely prohibited.

d. The control of designated tobacco products is strengthened.


2. The amendments to the Regulations for Student Rewards and Punishments at I-Shou University were approved by the University Council on October 25, 2023. Starting December 1, 2023, students who violate the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act will be given a minor demerit under Subparagraph 7 of Article 8 in the Regulations for Student Rewards and Punishments at I-Shou University. In addition to the punishment meted out by the University, violators may be referred to the local health authorities for further processing depending on the severity. Enforcement is everyone’s responsibility. If you see someone smoking on campus, please politely inform them of the aforementioned rules, in order to keep the campus smoke-free.


3. According to Articles 18 and 40 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, any person who smokes in a place where smoking is prohibited will be fined in an amount of no less than NT$2,000 but no more than NT$10,000.


4. According to Articles 16 and 42 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, persons under the age of 20 should not smoke. Violators are required to receive smoking cessation education.
